All In With God

Last week, we were reminded of our spiritual lineage and how we relate to God and His promises and how we can trust Him more regardless of the challenges we are facing. The biggest hurdle often is the fact that the enemy is against us. It should come as no surprise that the enemy does not want us to trust God.

During the exodus, we read in Exodus 8:1, “Then the Lord said to Moses, “Go to Pharaoh and say to him, ‘This is what the Lord says: Let my people go, so that they may worship me.” Over and over and over, God instructs Moses to tell Pharoah to let His people go – with the express purpose of them having the opportunity to worship Him. Many of us who are familiar with the story, stop at “let my people go.” But the point was for them to be released from bondage so they could go and worship God.

We cannot overlook this crucial point. The word “worship” is formed from two words “worth” and “ship.” The word “worship” means the thing, or the person being worshipped is of great value and great worth. In other words, we worship whatever is of the greatest value and worth to us. God says to Moses, “I want you to set my people free from Egypt so they can worship me…” God did not want them to value and place great worth on the world’s system, He wanted them to value and place great worth in Him!

The enemy knows how powerful worship is – after all it was his responsibility before he got kicked out of heaven. Today, as the prince of this world, he wants us to worship the world and all of its trappings. It is the reason he tempts Jesus in Matthew 4:8-9 with the world’s material possessions. Jesus rebukes him in verse 10, saying, “Away from me, Satan! For it is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God and serve him only.” Jesus in no uncertain terms says, “I don’t place the greatest value and worth on the world’s stuff, I place the greatest value and worth on God!” Let’s take a moment to examine our hearts this week to determine on who or what we are placing the greatest value and worth in our lives. Only by placing the greatest value and worth on God can we trust Him more!
