Jesus - The Eternally Reigning King

weekly advantage Apr 24, 2023

As April comes to close, let us celebrate together the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus our eternally reigning KING! In Luke 1, the angel Gabriel, speaking on behalf of God the Father, declared Jesus as King when he said,  “You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over Jacob’s descendants forever; his kingdom will never end.”

Throughout the Old Testament, the Messiah is described as Savior and King who will rescue His people and govern and defend them as the eternal reigning King, a descendant of the throne of David (2 Samuel 7:12-16, Isaiah 9:6, Micah 2:). In the prophecies, the Messiah King is described as God who had come to meet all the needs of His people and reign as the promised King of kings. Later in Revelation 19:16, we see Him return in the final battle as “KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.”

We can rest in the promise that when we accept the gift of salvation and confess Jesus as LORD, we also profess Him as the promised KING, who will judge God’s enemies and rule God’s people in peace for eternity. In Hebrews 1:8-9 the writer declares, “But about the Son he says, “Your throne, O God, will last for ever and ever; a scepter of justice will be the scepter of your kingdom. You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness; therefore God, your God, has set you above your companions by anointing you with the oil of joy.”

Jesus is our eternally reigning King, both now and for eternity, enabling us to enjoy the blessings of power, majesty, and glory. What a comfort we have in knowing Jesus, our King, as we trust Him in faith, loving and serving Him day to day until He returns!
