Last time, we learned the trusting process begins with choosing and loving the lamb. We came to understand choosing demonstrated our free will and loving the lamb helped us appreciate the sacrifice to come. We saw the symbolism of the first Passover in our own relationship with Christ, the Lamb as we chose to love Him and trust Him as Savior and Lord.
God’s next instruction comes in Exodus 12:8-10 where He instructs, “That same night they are to eat the meat roasted over the fire, along with bitter herbs, and bread made without yeast. Do not eat the meat raw or boiled in water but roast it over a fire—with the head, legs and internal organs. Do not leave any of it till morning; if some is left till morning, you must burn it.” After choosing and loving the lamb, they slaughtered it and applied its blood to their doorposts. Now, they were to roast and eat the lamb. The lamb was to be roasted whole, a process which takes time.
Herein lies the
challenge for us as 21st century believers, we want to trust God,
but He does not move as quickly as we want. Rather than roasting, we are
looking for microwaving. The problem – God rarely works like that! Why? More
important to Him that what He is doing for us is what He is doing in us!
God instructed them to roast and eat the whole lamb, not just their favorite parts. The parallel for us, we can’t just accept the God who calls us but the God who corrects us (you know – accepts us, holds us accountable, etc.). They needed to eat all the lamb for the journey ahead of them as we need all of God for our journey forward. We cannot go forward if we are spiritually malnourished – we need all of God! May we demonstrate our trust in God by giving Him all of ourselves, but also by wanting all of Him.
