Victory in Jesus

Dec 22 / Van Moody

Many of us have struggled with finding contentment, fulfillment, and peace. It is a common problem today as people seek fame and fortune believing it can bring them happiness and significance. In stark contrast, some of us have come to the realization that there is more to life than fame or money.

In Matthew 25:34-36, we discover the secret to Kingdom living – “Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. For I was hungry, and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty, and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger, and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’” When we understand the key to Kingdom living we can find contentment, significance, and peace in Christ, much like what happened to the woman at the well who we talked about last week.

Jesus made a stunning revelation to the woman at the well in John 4, offering her information He had not shared with anyone else at the time. She knew the Messiah was to come, and He boldly proclaimed, “I am He; you don’t have to wait any longer or look any further.” Jesus met her where she was – at her point of need – and revealed His true identity accordingly. He asked her for a drink of water but gave her so much more in return. He shared the truth of who He was, offered her forgiveness of her past, gave her the promise of eternal life, and provided hope for the future. She was overcome with excitement, so much so that she ran into town to tell everyone, and many believed that day.

As we close out the year together, let’s ask ourselves, “Are we listening to the ONE who can give us the bread of life and the living water we crave? Are we ready to turn away from the hollow offerings of the world to the ONE who offers us something so much better?”

Jesus loves us, cares for us, and longs to fill the emptiness of our souls. Through Him, we have the ultimate victory over our enslaving sin. He promises us no more emptiness, no more longing – but rather love and grace – which is all-sufficient!
